Raymond William “Chuck” Smith, jr.


A Lancer out of sight
Never out of mind


It is with deepest regrets, that we must inform all R.E. Lee High School Alumni and the Class of 1967, that Chuck Smith passed away Saturday the 8th of May, 2010.

He
was born on October 21st 1949 in Portsmouth, Va. to Raymond William Smith, sr. and Anna Beatrice Smith. He died peacefully in his sleep on May 8th 2010.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Anna in February 2010.

He is survived by father, Raymond W. Smith of Danese, Wv.; Wife of 41 years, Diane Clark Smith; Three Sisters, Vivian Krauss and family of Norfolk, Va., Kathy Small and family of Danese, Wv., Marsha Smith of Danese, Wv.; Son, David Hamilton Smith and Wife Donna of Wirtz, Va.; Daughter, Julia Thurlow and Husband Derik of Roanoke, Va.; Son, Adrian Derek Smith of Roanoke, Va.; Four Grandchildren, Tyler Bill, Steven, Nicolas, and Cameron Smith,; One Step-Grandchild, Niko Thurlow.

In 1961, he dedicated his life to the service of the Universal Sovereign and Almighty God, Jehovah. He has since then served in any capacity that has been opened up to him. In the 60’s, after learning the American Sign Language, he used it to further the increase to those unable to hear God’s message. In the 80’s he volunteered for the new arrangement of building Kingdom Halls, his first was in Dumas, TX. And has done numerous others since then. From 2005 - 08, he served in full time ministry and in 2006 was able to achieve one of his spiritual goals of going to the Pioneer Ministry Training School. He also served as an elder in the Valley View, Roanoke congregation.
