It is with deep regret that we must inform all of
R.E. Lee High School Alumni that Coach Mike Millan died
Christmas morning December 25, 2011.
Coach fell and broke his
upper leg below his hip implant. He had
surgery to mend it just before Thanksgiving
and despite a lot of pain he was recovering.
The stress of general anesthesia, his age,
perhaps a little too aggressive physical
therapy, and a pre-existing congestive heart
condition all combined to cause a decline in
his situation. The treatment he was getting
for his heart had a negative effect on his
kidneys and he had to undergo dialysis. It
was a lot to go through and he was reluctant
to do extraordinary things to survive.
Words from friends did a lot to improve his
spirits.
Coach Millan
was Lee's first and foremost head coach, and
his was a long, loving, and memorable
career. All who were privileged to
know him as simply P.E. students, or as
members of his freshmen, Junior Varsity or
Varsity teams can attest to his love of
sports and his dedication to teaching and
all Lee students.
He will be
missed and there will always be a special
place for him in our hearts.
