In Memoriam

Barbara Rother

A Lancer out of sight
Never out of mind

We regret to inform all of the Alumni and the class of

1968 that Barbara Rother died Wednesday, May 25, 2016.

She lived in Winston Salem North Carolina.

Barbara Rother's family is thankful for all of the support and prayers over the last few days. Visitation will be held at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home Wednesday, June 1 from 6-8PM. Memorial service will be held at Fairfax Community Church (Braddock rd) at 11AM Thursday, June 2, with internment immediately following at Stonewall Memory Garden. We will gather for a luncheon after the interment. Please join us for this celebration of Barbara's life.

Barbara Rother was born on September 24, 1950, to Joseph and Jeanette Rother in Kingston, Pennsylvania. She was raised in Springfield, Virginia and later raised her own family in Vienna. She was a giving and selfless person, and she worked tenaciously to support those she loved. She earned a masters degree in library science while working and maintaining ardent devotion to her family. Barbara loved to spend time both around water and at the beach, logging more than 100 scuba dives internationally. In recent years, she explored many waterways via her sea kayak. She was a lover of all animals, from her furry grand babies to her iguana, Jade. In 2013, she and her husband retired to Winston-Salem North Carolina to be nearer to their children. Barbara gave her time to many organizations, from adapted aquatics to a community garden. She was an avid participant in several faith communities. Barbara's faith and family were the keystones of her life.

Barbara is survived by her sister, Marilyn Kraus, her husband, Barry Wheeler, and her daughters, Christina Hedges and Brittany Hedges. - See more at: http://www.fairfaxmemorialfuneralhome.com/obituary/Barbara-Mary-Rother/Winston-Salem-NC/1622020#sthash.Baxt8h9v.dpuf
