We are sorry to inform the Class of '69 and the Lee community that Marie Ellen Sherwood passed away Thursday, September 29, 2022 after a long struggle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy.

Marie was born on April 4, 1951 in Washington, D.C. After graduating from Lee High School in Springfield, Virginia, she worked at the Central Intelligence Agency and continued her education at Northern Virginia Community College. She met John Sherwood in high school and they were married in 1974. They celebrated 48 years of marriage in 2022. After Marie and John were married, she worked at a number of universities as John pursued his career. She left the workforce to take care of John’s mother and then her father in their final days. Marie was a tender-hearted person that always cared for others more than herself. She loved to spend time with friends, read and feed the wildlife.

She is survived by her husband, John Sherwood of Summerville, SC; a younger brother, Robert Swart of Fredericksburg, VA; and a younger sister, Patricia Gaylord of Manassas, VA.

A Memorial Service was held on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at 1 o’ clock at Parks Funeral Home, 130 W. 1st North Street, Summerville, SC 29483.

In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to your local humane society. Marie will be embraced by the Lord as she always had forgiveness in her heart.
