In Memoriam

Rhonda "Rho" Doney

A Lancer out of sight
Never out of mind

We are sorry to inform the Lee community and the class of 1973 that Rhonda "Rho" Doney died Monday, January 27, 2020 in her home in Lawrenceville, Georgia.

She was a 1973 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Springfield, Virginia and studied social work at The University of Tennessee in Chattanooga, later earning a Paralegal degree from The University of Maryland in College Park, Md.

Prior to her relocation to Georgia in 2018 she was an accounting assistant at Bowl America Headquarters in Springfield, Va where she had previously worked for many years in the print shop before accepting a Paralegal position with the Law Offices of J. Thomas Fromme (formerly Sherman & Fromme) in Fairfax, Va where she worked for 13 years.  She also previously worked in restaurant management at Seasons in Fairfax as well as Kupchick’s and Debrak’s in Lewes, Delaware. She enjoyed working weekends as an independent D.J. in numerous clubs in the Washington, DC area and in Lewes, where she was known as “Rockin Rhoda”, as well as for private engagements for special occasions. Her personal interests also included assisting the elderly with errands, housework and providing companionship.  She will always be lovingly remembered by family and friends as an outgoing and generous person who delighted in making people laugh.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Doney Sr. and Louise Doney, her sister Lisa Doney, and sister-in-law Mattie Wood Doney.  She is survived by her brother, Robert Doney, Jr. of Locust Grove, Virginia; sisters Rita Doney Bettis of Lawrenceville, Georgia and Ruane Doney Langton (and husband John) of Sarasota, Florida; nephews Bobby Doney, Sean Bettis and Kyle Bettis; niece Dawn Doney;  and seven great-nieces and great-nephews.

A memorial service was held on Monday, March 2, 2020 at Laurel Hill Funeral Home in Spotsylvania, Virginia at 12:00 noon.  In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made in her memory to The American Lung Association/Fight COPD, 730 South Sterling Avenue, Suite 303, Tampa, FL 33609.
