In Memoriam

John R. Funk

A Lancer out of sight
Never out of mind

It is with deepest regrets, that we must inform all R.E. Lee High School Alumni and the Class of 1971, that John R. Funk, our gentle giant, passed away Monday the 24nd of September, 2012 at the age of 58.

John is preceded in death by his parents James and Barbara Funk and survived by his sister and her husband, Lois and Marty Settle; a brother William "Billy" Funk; two nieces and one nephew, Annie, Daniel and Kristen Settle.

John forged his career at Washington Gas and retired earlier this year after more than 30 years of service.

John was truly one of the nicest people you would ever meet, never showing up empty handed and always appreciative and generous. Those who knew him best know what a tragic loss this is.

John enjoyed the simpler things in life like driving to Hatteras for the day, and visiting and exploring places he had never been and he never passed up the opportunity to fish. There is no doubt John will be sorely missed by many!

A Memorial service will be held at Oakton Baptist Church on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. located at 14001 Sulleyfield Cir., Chantilly, VA 20151. Family and friends will be received at Fairfax Yacht Club, 10721 Old Colchester Rd., Lorton, VA 22079 following service.

In lieu of flowers, the family would ask for donations to be made to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation in honor of John R. Funk.
