Peter A. Shatswell

In Memoriam

A Lancer out of sight
Never out of mind

It is with great regret that we must inform all Robert E. Lee Alumni and the Class of 1971 of the death of our beloved classmate and friend, Peter Shatswell.  Peter didn't graduate from Lee but he was with the class of 1971 when he attended. His brother Bruce graduated with the class of '68

Peter Alfred "Pete" Shatswell, 53, of Spotsylvania County died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2006, at University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.

As an Internet trader he enabled people to buy and sell items over the Internet. He also sold items at flea markets. Mr. Shatswell was a member of Salem Fields Community Church, the Railroad Friends and a computer club. He also was a volunteer for Hospice Support Care. He was preceded in death by his father, John A. Shatswell.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline Crist Shatswell; his mother, Elizabeth Thayer "Betsy" Shatswell; a brother, Bruce Ashby Shatswell and his wife, Pat; and two nieces.

A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, at Salem Fields Community Church, with Pastor Virginia Pruitt officiating. Burial will be private.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Support Care, 2215 Fall Hill Ave., Fredericksburg, Va. 22401.

The family is grateful to Spotsylvania County Fire and Rescue, the emergency room staff and especially the staff of the ICU on third floor west of University of Virginia Medical Center.
