Robert Allen Nevins

A Lancer out of sight
Never out of mind


Robert Allen Nevins, 51, who spent the past 22 years as a heating and air-conditioning mechanic for Boland Services in Rockville, died July 2 at Beth Israel Medical Center in Manhattan, N.Y. He had pancreatic cancer.

Mr. Nevins was born in Arlington and grew up in Springfield, where he graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1974.

He moved from Alexandria to Upper Fairmount on Maryland's Eastern Shore in 2003 and became a volunteer firefighter and emergency medical technician. He was president of the Somerset County Firemen's Association from 2005 to 2006.

Mr. Nevins was a varsity football player in high school and later became an amateur power lifter, winning a national title from the Natural Athlete Strength Association in 2000.

His marriage to Terry Johnson Nevins ended in divorce.

Survivors include his wife of five years, Suzanne Hochman "Sue" Nevins of Upper Fairmount; three children from the first marriage, Jenifer Hobson and Colleen Lawrence, both of Dumfries, and Robert Nevins Jr. of St. Augustine Beach, Fla.; his parents, Winfield and Audrey Nevins of Stephens City, Va.; a brother, David Nevins of South Riding; a sister, Sharon Nash of Spotsylvania; and five grandchildren.
