Alison N. Douglass and Daniel R. Hinson
The first two scholarships awarded by the Lee High School Alumni
& Friends Association (LAFA) have been awarded to Alison N. Douglass and Daniel R.
Hinson, both graduates of the Class of 1999. Alison has plans to attend Radford
University and Daniel will be studying at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
This Spring, scholarships were created to award two current seniors who had
contributed to Lee High School through sports, clubs, leadership postions, performing arts
and through acts of volunteerism. The key to these scholarship recipients was
evidence of significant contributions to Lee High School.
LAFA hopes to award similar scholarships each year. This year's award was made
possible through the LAFA membership fees and donations of many alumni, but most notably
by Gary and Sethe Eckstein who contributed $800 specifically to launch this worthy
scholarship program.
Along with Principal Don Thurston and PTSA President Pete Conklin several LAFA members
attended the Senior Awards Ceremony. Included were the chairman of the LAFA
scholarship commitee Dr. Bill Oehrlein, as well as Cathy Lichtenfels, Lori Buckius, Frank
Dulong, and Morgan Percy, along with Gary, Sethe, and Alexis Eckstein. We extend
special congratulations to all those who took part in the Senior Awards Ceremony.
